Medicaid Dental Coverage: Ensuring a Healthy Smile for Everyone

At Todays Dental @ Cayce, we understand the importance of dental health insurance, especially in today’s society. Dental health concerns affect people from all walks of life, regardless of their social status. Many individuals, particularly those from underprivileged backgrounds, struggle to afford the latest dental treatments. That’s where Medicaid comes in. As a government-funded insurance program, Medicaid ensures equal distribution of healthcare benefits to those in need.

Medicaid

Why should you consider dental health insurance? The reasons are compelling:

  1. Untreated tooth decay can lead to abscesses, infections, sleep deprivation, malnutrition, and low self-esteem.
  2. Periodontal disease has been linked to cardiovascular disease, cancer, and even death.
  3. Smoking and diabetes can negatively impact oral health and increase the risk of cardiovascular problems.
  4. Pregnant females with periodontal disease are more likely to experience preterm delivery.

Surprisingly, poor dental health can even affect one’s job prospects and employability. Social intelligence, often based on the aesthetics of one’s teeth, plays a significant role in various professional settings. Therefore, securing dental insurance becomes crucial for safeguarding your and your family’s oral health in dire situations.

At Todays Dental @ Cayce, we offer the benefits of Medicaid dental coverage to provide you with the best treatments at affordable rates. In South Carolina, the Medicaid policies, administered by the South Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (SCDHHS), have been in place since 2014. The cost is shared between the state and federal governments, with the latter covering 70% of the expenses.

Medicaid

To be eligible for Medicaid, you must meet specific criteria, which include:

  • Being an elderly, blind, or disabled adult or child
  • Females diagnosed with breast cancer or cervical cancer
  • Former foster care child up to age 26
  • Families in need of medical assistance
  • Individuals receiving community or home-based care
  • Low-income beneficiaries of specified Medicare programs

Additionally, to qualify for Medicaid, you must be a US citizen or have legal residency status. A valid social security number or federal identification number is required, along with proof of residency in South Carolina, such as a driver’s license or DMV ID card.

The benefits of Medicaid are extensive, providing a comprehensive set of health benefits to our country’s most vulnerable individuals who cannot afford expensive oral health treatments. Medicaid offers the financial protection and security necessary for maintaining a healthy mouth.

So why not choose a dentist who supports Medicaid? At Todays Dental @ Cayce, we currently treat 50% of our patients under Medicaid coverage and are excited to establish new relationships with patients who can benefit from these advantages.
